Mona Pools
Mana Meaning 'Four' Pools on the Zambezi River Mana Pools, part of a 10,500 square kilometre Parks and Wildlife Estate, derrives its name from the local Shona word ‘mana’, meaning ‘four’, referring to four large Pools on the Zambezi River – once a major route for ivory and slave trading in Africa’s dak past – at a point in the River where it flows sedately on its way to the Indian Ocean. The Pools are remnant ox-bow lakes, carved over hundreds of years as the Zambezi has changed its course.
The Pools are situated on a rich alluvial flood plain, an unusual ecosystme, supporting abundant wildlife.Mana has long time been a favourite safari destination, not only for its spectacular scenic beauty and abundance of wildlife that congregates on the fertile alluvial floodplain, but also for canoe and walking safaris that afford guests the opportunity to get exhiliratingly near to the wild life feeding on the flood plain, and the aquatic life, including the African Nile crocodile, and hippopotomus.
Matobo Hills
‘Matobo’s hills hide secrets of a fascinating past’ A place of obvious natural beauty, Matobo’s hills hide secrets of great historical significance – from the lingering legacy of bushmen in ancient cave paintings, to the burial ground of a great African empire-builder – Matobo’s past is fascinating to discover.
As ‘voices from the rock’ seemingly echo over the breezes and in and around every cave and kopjie (small hills), an overwhealming sense of Matobo’s turbulent past, belies the present serenity.
From the Stone Age to recent times, these hills have been a place of worship and a place of refuge during rebellion, a hunting ground, burial ground and battleground. Secrets of the past, now silent in the hills, make Matobo a place of intense intrigue for anyone interested in the strife and struggles of Africa.
And here, by his special request, lies buried Africa’s great empire builder, colossus of his age, and one-time Prime Minister of the Cape Colony (South Africa) in 1890, Cecil John Rhodes.
Matobo National Park is home to white rhino, many leopard and a wonderful variety of antelope and other plains game species. If you are lucky, you may even spot the endangered black rhino here!
V ictoria Falls
Africa has reason to be proud of its scenic treasure, a jewel of the Zambezi – the natural World Wonder – Victoria Falls.
First discovered by Dr David Livingstone, who said of it, ‘a scene so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight’, it is a breath-taking spectacle, and a belittling experience, standing beside 545 million litres of water per minute cascading into a vast chasm of 100 metres deep and spanning an area of 1.6km wide. ‘Exciting Activities, for the Romantic, and also for the Daring’
In season, guests can visit the Falls during the evening hours, when the moon is high and the Falls are a ghostly white spray in the moonlight.
Victoria Falls lends itself to a variety of once-in-a-lifetime safari activities, including various adrenaline sports tht can be enjoyed by all.
Hwange National Park

…The African sun is setting and the stillness of evening approaches. Accompanied by your Professional Guide, glass in hand, you linger near a waterhole where thirsty herds are venturing down to drink after a long, hot day.
Nightfall comes and you prepare to head back to the comfort of your camp where dinner by firelight awaits. There is notable tension in the air, as dusk gives way to darkness, and perdators begin to move
Nhongo Safaris offers Executive Safaris and Explorer Safaris in Hwange National Park, each differing in style of accommodation and activity options.
Executive Safaris offers luxury mobile tented accommodation in an exclusive camp in Hwange National Park (semi-permanent camp), whilst Explorer Safaris are mobile tented camps, purposed to move easily to choice locations within Hwange National Park, and/or to a variety of wildlife areas throughout Zimbabwe.
Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest National Park, covering an area of over 14,500 square kilometres – almost the size of Belgium. The Park is renowned for its vast elephant population (estimated to be over 40,000 in peak season). It boasts a fascinating diversity of fauna and flora, and one of the widest variety of large mammals in the world.
Hwange stages spectacular seasonal contrast. In the peak of the dry season, when scorching days, scarcity of water, and sundown sees thirsty heards fight for place to drink, up to 1,000 elephants can descend on a single waterhole in a day. An urgent frenzy of feet and the ensuing cloud of dust smothers the setting sun, to colour the African dusk red.
In striking contrast, the welcome onset of heavy rains in the wet season brings refreshing change. A once dusty landscape turns a lush green, showcasing new life at every turn, an abundance of plains game, and a fascinating array of resident and migratory birds.
Hwange National Park is vast, affording visitors stunning scenic and wildlife variety. It is the perfect place for excellent photographic opportunity.
