WE HAD AN AFRICAN DREAM
" After two decades of military service in the South African Defence Force (SADF), I found myself retired as a Military Veteran and unemployed. With a wife and two children to support, we searched for a new opportunities as a family that we could get into. With the booming tourism industry in South Africa, I decided to embark on a journey to become a tour guide and enter the industry at the bottom. I underwent a Field Guides Course in the Greater Kruger National Park, and eventually became a National Guide, certified to guide tourists in all provinces of South Africa.
After conducting several tours and being away from home for extended periods of time that was not good for the family, I sought a new challenge in the tourism industry that would be more accommodating on family life.
That's when we found the perfect opportunity - a Lodge Management Couple position at the Pungwe Safari Camp in the Manyeleti Game Reserve, which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. My wife, an exceptional cook, took on the role as camp cook, making wonderful food and cakes for the guests, while I became the Safari Camp Manager, conducting game drives and bush walks with the support of a trusted guide and tracker that was my number two.
We loved every minute of been the management couple of the Pungwe Safari Camp, and having the children that stayed with us were having the time of their lives, experiencing what living in a game reserve was all about, together with playing around elephants, buffalo, and zebra, with the regular visits from the resident pride of lions and the ever present leopard that would always come around for the odd visit and smell around.
However, it was eventually time for us to return to the city, due to it been time for our children to get a formal education.
That's when our African Dream truly began.
With a traded-in vehicle, we bought a second-hand VW Microbus, and soon enough, we stumbled into conducting safaris in closed vehicles to the Kruger National Park. As the market introduced open safari vehicles, we decided to invest and soon enough, our fleet grew to seven open vehicles.
Although the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to downscale, we still have a trusted fleet of relatively new open safari vehicles and transfer minibuses that transport people daily on their safaris to the Kruger National Park and surrounding areas.
Looking back, the tourism industry has brought us so much joy and allowed us to meet new and great people which we showcase the beauty of our country and its abundant wildlife in South Africa on a daily basis.
So, if you're looking for safari's in South Africa, don't hesitate to reach out to us.
You'll arrive as a stranger but leave as a friend."
