The Pioneer Dam of the Kruger National Park is instantly recognised by its large population of the attractive Mopani Trees, not to mention the gorgeous restcamp in the area which lends its name & aesthetics from these magnificent species. Mopani restcamp, its exquisite thatched accommodation & stone buildings, an extension of the bushy surroundings, combines its perfect position relative to the dam for viewing of the wildlife seeking a reliable water source, providing excellent game viewing opportunities.
Accommodation at the charming restcamp is provided in a series of bungalows, all with bathrooms and fully equipped kitchenettes. The Pioneer Dam Bird-Hides and Shipandane sleep-over as well as wildlife film screenings are additional activities provided at the Mopani restcamp. Onsite facilities include a ladies bar, restaurant, shops, laundromat, conference facilities and auditorium as well as a delightful swimming pool.
Visitors on the lookout from the camp's numerous vantage points will spot elephants, waterbuck, buffalo, hippos and lion.
The open plains surrounding are populated with many species such as wildebeest, zebra, tsessebe, and the call of the jackals.
